Teaching Message
One key principle of discipleship is availability. This means being willing to be accessible, usable, and open to God’s purpose at any moment. It’s a heart posture that says yes to God even before understanding the assignment.
In God's Kingdom, He is not limited by ability. He is limited by availability. God doesn’t primarily seek out the most talented. He looks for those who are most available. Ability can grow, but availability must be given up willingly.
Isaiah had a divine encounter that changed his life. When God asked, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us, Isaiah responded without hesitation, Here am I; send me. This response lays the groundwork for every impactful life in the Kingdom. It is not about negotiation; it’s about surrender.
Availability means being willing to be interrupted by God. Many disciples struggle not due to a lack of calling but because they aren’t available. Their schedules are packed, their priorities are set, and their plans are inflexible. This leads them to miss out on divine opportunities.
A truly available disciple does not belong solely to himself. He understands that his life is a tool in God’s hands. His time, energy, and resources are all open to divine guidance.
Luke 5 gives another strong example with Levi. When Jesus called him, he left everything behind and followed right away. This shows that being available often requires letting go of something familiar to accept something divine. Availability always involves moving from comfort to calling.
One major barrier to availability is attachment. Clinging to comfort, routine, personal goals, or possessions can hinder total surrender. Disciples must learn to let go of anything that competes with God’s mission.
Romans 12:1 describes availability as a living sacrifice. This means it isn't just occasional; it's continuous. A sacrifice on an altar does not move on its own. It is fully yielded. Similarly, a disciple must present himself to God every day.
Availability also shows itself in sensitivity. A genuinely available disciple notices divine prompts. He doesn’t wait for convenience to respond to God. He acts as soon as God speaks.
A deep expression of availability is being ready without conditions. Many people claim to be available, but their readiness often depends on their preferences or timing. Kingdom availability has no conditions.
God often tests availability through small tasks. Simple acts of obedience, quiet assignments, or hidden responsibilities help determine whether a disciple can be trusted with bigger tasks.
Flexibility is also important for availability. A rigid disciple cannot easily be used by God. God frequently changes direction, timing, and tasks. An available disciple can adjust without resistance.
Another aspect of availability is giving up personal agendas. Many believers have good plans, but true disciples surrender even those plans when God's purpose requires it. Availability means that God’s will comes before personal plans.
It’s crucial to understand that being available doesn’t mean inactivity. It means actively being ready to respond to God’s direction.
God doesn’t waste available vessels. When a disciple is genuinely available, God trusts them with assignments that can influence generations. Availability draws divine attention and responsibility.
Consistency is another vital aspect of availability. It’s not enough to be available just once. Kingdom usefulness calls for continuous readiness. God assigns responsibility to those who remain consistently yielded.
Availability also requires humility. A proud heart is often unavailable because it clings to control. A humble heart, however, says, Lord, use me however You want.
One danger of being unavailable is missing timing. Many destinies are delayed, not because God isn’t speaking, but because the vessel isn’t positioned or ready when God calls.
Availability is shown in the willingness to serve in less visible places. Not every assignment is public. Some of the most important Kingdom tasks happen quietly. A truly available disciple serves even without recognition.
Jesus Christ is the best example of availability. He said, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. Jesus lived a life completely devoted to His Father’s purpose.
Availability is not weakness. It’s aligning with divine purpose. It opens the door to impact, relevance, and influence in the Kingdom.
