Philippians 2:9-11
"Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
Teaching Message
Of all the treasures that redemption has given the believer, few are as powerful and as practical as the name of Jesus. It is not just a way to sign off on your prayers. It is not a tradition or a formula. The name of Jesus is divine authorization — the legal backing of heaven entrusted to you. When you truly grasp the weight of that name, you stop approaching life with timidity and start moving with the boldness and confidence of someone who knows they are backed by the throne of God.
Philippians 2:9-11, "Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
Above every name. Let that register. Not just above some names, or above most names — above every name that can be named. It is above sickness. Above poverty. Above fear. Above delay. Above every demonic power and every oppressive force. Heaven honors this name. Earth responds to it. Hell trembles at its sound.
The power in this name is not abstract — it is rooted in what Jesus accomplished. He conquered sin. He defeated death. He walked out of the grave. He triumphed over every principality and power. His name carries the weight of that victory.
Colossians 2:15, "And having spoiled principalities and powers he made a shew of them openly triumphing over them in it."
So when you speak the name of Jesus, you are not making a request from a position of weakness. You are enforcing a victory that has already been won. You are not begging — you are declaring.
And this name was not given to a select group of spiritual leaders. It was given to believers. To you.
Mark 16:17-18, "And these signs shall follow them that believe In my name shall they cast out devils they shall speak with new tongues They shall take up serpents and if they drink any deadly thing it shall not hurt them they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover."
"Them that believe" — that is every child of God. You have the authority to cast out demons, to lay hands on the sick, to stand against the enemy. The name of Jesus activates supernatural possibilities in your everyday life.
The early Church understood this in a way we desperately need to recover. Look at Peter at the gate called Beautiful. A lame man begged for money, and Peter offered something far greater.
Acts 3:6, "Then Peter said Silver and gold have I none but such as I have give I thee In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk."
Peter did not rely on personal ability, education, or charisma. He drew from the authority in the name. And the man leaped to his feet. That is what happens when the name is spoken in faith.
Acts 3:16, "And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong whom ye see and know yea the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all."
There it is — the name works through faith. It is not a magic word you toss around hoping something happens. It is a spiritual authority that responds to genuine belief. When faith and the name of Jesus come together, results follow.
This name also opens the door to answered prayer. When you pray in the name of Jesus, you are approaching God not on the basis of your own merit, but on the authority of Christ Himself.
John 14:13-14, "And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name that will I do that the Father may be glorified in the Son If ye shall ask any thing in my name I will do it."
That is a staggering promise. You are not coming to God with your own credentials — you come carrying the name that heaven cannot refuse.
The name of Jesus also holds the power of salvation and deliverance.
Acts 4:12, "Neither is there salvation in any other for there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved."
There is no substitute. No alternative. No other name carries the power to save, deliver, and set free. This is the name that breaks chains, transforms lives, and opens the gates of redemption.
And in times of trouble, this name becomes your fortress.
Proverbs 18:10, "The name of the Lord is a strong tower the righteous runneth into it and is safe."
When danger rises, when uncertainty presses in, when the enemy attacks — you have a place of safety. The name of Jesus is not only a weapon of offense; it is a shield of protection.
Beloved, live in the awareness of this name. Do not treat it casually. Speak it with faith. Declare it with conviction. Use it in your prayers. Use it in spiritual warfare. Use it as you walk through your day. The name of Jesus carries the fullness of His victory — and that victory belongs to you.
