Luke 10:19
"Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means hurt you."
Teaching Message
One of the most stunning realities established through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is this: dominion has been given back to you. Redemption didn't only forgive sin, it restored authority. When Adam fell in the garden, humanity lost its God-given rulership over the earth. But what the first Adam forfeited, the last Adam recovered. Through the victory of Christ, every believer has been reinstated, not as a victim of circumstances, but as a ruler under God.
Luke 10:19, "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means hurt you."
Pay close attention to the tense of this statement. Jesus did not say He would give you power at some point in the future. He declared it as already given. And notice the scope: all the power of the enemy. Not some of it. Not most of it. All of it. The authority you carry in Christ is comprehensive, absolute, and superior to anything the enemy can muster.
Now, here's a distinction that will change the way you walk through life: authority is not the same as power. Power is raw ability; authority is the legal right to wield that ability. Think of a police officer directing traffic. The officer may be physically smaller than every driver on the road, but the badge, the authority behind the uniform, compels compliance. In the same way, you carry divine authority backed by all of heaven. When you speak in faith, aligned with the Word of God, heaven itself stands behind your declaration.
This authority flows directly from your position in Christ. Redemption didn't just change your spiritual status; it relocated you entirely.
Ephesians 2:6, "And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus."
You are seated with Christ, and that seat is a throne. Kings sit on thrones, and authority flows from the place of seating. Beloved, you are positioned above principalities, above powers, above the rulers of darkness, and above every crushing circumstance of life. You don't face your challenges from underneath them. You face them from above.
Your authority is also rooted in something immensely powerful: the name of Jesus. That name carries dominion over every realm in existence.
Philippians 2:9-11, "Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
When you invoke the name of Jesus in genuine faith, you are operating under the highest jurisdiction in the universe. Sickness must bow. Fear must bow. Oppression must bow. Delay must bow. Every knee, in heaven, on earth, and under the earth, bends before that name, and you have been authorized to use it.
But here's the thing: authority that goes unused remains dormant. It must be exercised through faith and bold declaration.
Mark 11:23, "For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass he shall have whatsoever he saith."
Jesus is teaching a vital principle here: mountains respond to words spoken in faith. Your authority is, so to speak, voice-activated. You must speak. You must declare. You must command. Staying silent in the face of opposition only allows the enemy to linger. Authority is enforced through spiritual boldness, by opening your mouth and declaring what heaven has already decreed.
Your authority also demands active resistance against the enemy. He doesn't withdraw on his own; he withdraws when confronted.
James 4:7, "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."
This resistance isn't emotional hand-wringing. It is spiritual: standing on the Word, declaring truth over lies, enforcing the finished work of Christ in your situation. When you stand firm on what God has said, the enemy has no option but to retreat. That is how spiritual dominion operates.
And this authority extends beyond spiritual warfare into every area of life. God's original design was for humanity to rule the earth, and redemption restores that mandate in full.
Genesis 1:28, "And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth."
Your home, your family, your career, your God-given assignment, you have dominion over all of it. You were never designed to be overwhelmed by life. You are equipped to subdue, to overcome, and to prevail.
Of course, authority functions at its fullest when you walk in alignment with God. Submission to Him is what sharpens and strengthens your authority.
John 14:13-14, "And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it."
Notice the purpose: that the Father may be glorified. This authority isn't given for pride or selfish ambition. It exists to establish God's will on the earth.
And your authority is sustained by righteous living. Sin erodes confidence, but righteousness fuels boldness.
Proverbs 28:1, "The wicked flee when no man pursueth but the righteous are bold as a lion."
Boldness is the atmosphere in which authority thrives. When you know who you are in Christ, really know it, deep in your bones, fear evaporates. Doubt fades. Confidence rises. You stop complaining about your circumstances and start commanding them.
Ultimately, all of this authority exists for one grand purpose: to advance the Kingdom of God on earth.
Matthew 6:10, "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven."
You are a representative of heaven, stationed on earth. You carry divine authority to release healing, establish righteousness, enforce peace, and demonstrate to the world around you that Jesus reigns. Your very life becomes the evidence.
So rise today in the full awareness of who you are. You are not helpless. You are not defeated. You are not powerless. Authority has been placed in your hands, dominion has been restored to your life, and victory has been secured on your behalf. Walk in it. Speak from it. Live it out, today and every day.
