Luke 6:46 (NKJV)
“But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?”
Teaching Message
Every true ambassador submits to the government that appointed him. He does not create his own policies, pursue his own agenda, or speak based on personal opinions. His authority is effective because it is given to him. The moment he stops representing his government, he loses the right to speak for it.
The same idea applies to our relationship with God. Our effectiveness as Kingdom ambassadors is closely tied to our submission to Jesus Christ. We cannot truly represent the King while obeying His instructions only when it suits us. His authority must first rule our hearts before it can flow through our lives.
Luke 6:46 (NKJV), “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?”
This question goes beyond what we say and looks at our obedience. We can acknowledge Jesus with our words while resisting His authority in our daily lives. The true proof of His Lordship is found not just in what we claim but in how we act.
The Kingdom of God relies on willing obedience. Every command from God shows His wisdom, love, and desire to guide us into His perfect will. Obedience is never a burden for those who love Him; it is a joyful response to the One who sacrificed Himself for our redemption.
John 14:15 (NKJV), “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”
We show our love for Christ through obedience. Every decision to forgive, every choice to act with integrity, every act of kindness, every refusal to compromise, and every step of faith acknowledges that Jesus truly reigns as Lord in our lives.
An ambassador does not negotiate his king’s instructions. He carries them out faithfully.
Similarly, Kingdom ambassadors do not change God’s standards to fit society's shifting values. We remain loyal to the truth of God’s Word, even when it is unpopular or misunderstood. Our loyalty is first to Christ and His Kingdom.
This requires courage.
Every generation faces pressure to fit in. There is pressure to weaken convictions, to blend in with culture, and to accept values that go against the Scriptures. Yet, God’s people have always been called to stand as faithful witnesses during changing times.
Romans 12:2 (NKJV), “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
A Kingdom ambassador is not swayed by public opinion but is shaped by divine revelation. His beliefs are based on God’s Word, not on current trends.
This does not make us harsh or self-righteous. Instead, it makes us compassionate, kind, and steady. We speak the truth in love, act with humility, and offer God’s mercy to others while refusing to compromise His righteousness.
Submission to Christ also brings confidence.
When we walk in obedience to God’s will, we can serve Him boldly. We do not depend on our wisdom or strength because we know we are carrying out the King’s work. His authority supports those who obey Him faithfully.
Joshua 1:8 (NKJV), “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
Notice the order here. Meditation leads to understanding, understanding leads to obedience, and obedience results in a life marked by God’s favor and success. In the Kingdom, success is not just measured by achievement but by faithfulness to God’s purpose.
Living under God’s authority also influences our everyday decisions.
It affects how we manage our time.
It shapes how we handle money.
It guides our relationships.
It determines how we react when we are hurt.
It steers our choices when no one else is watching.
True obedience is not just for big moments. It is developed through daily faithfulness in ordinary situations.
The Lord seeks believers whose hearts are fully committed to Him. People who will trust His wisdom over their own understanding. People who will value His Word above human opinions. People whose greatest wish is not just to receive His blessings but to please Him in all things.
Psalm 40:8 (NKJV), “I delight to do Your will, O my God, and Your law is within my heart.”
This is the heart of a true Kingdom ambassador. Obedience is no longer an obligation; it becomes a joy. God’s commands are no longer seen as limits but as pathways to a fruitful, meaningful, and impactful life.
As you go about your tasks today, remember that you represent the King of kings. Before every important decision, ask yourself, “Does this honor my Lord? Does this show the values of His Kingdom?” When this becomes a part of your heart, your life will more fully reflect the beauty and authority of Christ.
Key Learning Points
- A KINGDOM AMBASSADOR DERIVES HIS AUTHORITY FROM HIS SUBMISSION TO CHRIST. Luke 6:46 (NKJV), “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?”
- TRUE LOVE FOR CHRIST IS EXPRESSED THROUGH OBEDIENCE. John 14:15 (NKJV), “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”
- GOD’S WORD MUST SHAPE YOUR THINKING RATHER THAN THE WORLD’S VALUES. Romans 12:2 (NKJV), “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
- OBEDIENCE POSITIONS YOU TO WALK IN GOD’S PURPOSE AND FAVOR. Joshua 1:8 (NKJV), “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
- KINGDOM BELIEFS MUST NEVER BE SACRIFICED FOR HUMAN APPROVAL. Acts 5:29 (NKJV), “But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: ‘We ought to obey God rather than men.’”
- FAITHFULNESS IN SMALL MATTERS PREPARES YOU FOR GREATER ASSIGNMENTS. Luke 16:10 (NKJV), “He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.”
- A HEART THAT DELIGHTS IN GOD’S WILL BECOMES A POWERFUL WITNESS FOR HIS KINGDOM. Psalm 40:8 (NKJV), “I delight to do Your will, O my God, and Your law is within my heart.”
