Teaching Message

After betrayal and arrest, the journey moves to its next painful stage. Jesus is now dragged before the religious council. The One who healed their sick stands before them as an accused man. The One who set the oppressed free is now held as a prisoner. And in this moment, we see the price of injustice woven into the redemptive economy.

Matthew 26:57, "And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest where the scribes and the elders were assembled."

Let us be clear about what this gathering really was. It was not a neutral court. It was a premeditated assembly. The verdict had already been decided before a single witness spoke. The trial was nothing more than a formality dressed up as justice.

And here is the hard truth, beloved: purpose will sometimes be judged unfairly. Divine calling will be misunderstood. Those who carry destiny will sometimes be misrepresented by the very people who should recognize them.

Isaiah 53:7, "He was oppressed and he was afflicted yet he opened not his mouth he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb so he openeth not his mouth."

Jesus stood in silence. But do not mistake that silence for weakness. It was strength held in restraint. It was the composure of a man who understood that God was still orchestrating events, even in the courtroom of His enemies. When you truly understand purpose, you do not feel the need to defend yourself at every accusation.

Matthew 26:59-60, "Now the chief priests and elders and all the council sought false witness against Jesus to put him to death But found none yea though many false witnesses came yet found they none At the last came two false witnesses."

They were not looking for truth. They were hunting for evidence to support a decision they had already made. Witness after witness came forward, and still their stories did not hold together. Lies have a way of unraveling, even when powerful people tell them.

Psalm 27:12, "Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies for false witnesses are risen up against me and such as breathe out cruelty."

False witnesses arose. Stories were fabricated. Words were twisted beyond recognition. Yet the truth remained intact — because truth does not need your defense to survive. It stands on its own. And through this, Jesus was paying a price: He bore the weight of false accusation so that you and I could walk in divine vindication.

Matthew 26:61, "And said This fellow said I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it in three days."

They took His words and mangled them. He had spoken a spiritual truth, and they interpreted it through carnal eyes. This happens more often than we realize — when you speak by revelation, those who think only in the natural will misunderstand you. And their misunderstanding can easily become an accusation.

John 2:19, "Jesus answered and said unto them Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up."

He was speaking of His body. They heard a threat against the building. Yet even in their confusion, prophecy was still unfolding exactly as God intended.

The high priest pressed Him for a response.

Matthew 26:62-63, "And the high priest arose and said unto him Answerest thou nothing what is it which these witness against thee But Jesus held his peace."

Silence again. And this silence speaks louder than any defense could. There are moments, friend, when your best response is no response at all — when you step back and let God fight on your behalf.

Exodus 14:14, "The Lord shall fight for you and ye shall hold your peace."

Finally, the high priest forced the issue, putting Jesus under oath.

Matthew 26:63-64, "I adjure thee by the living God that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ the Son of God Jesus saith unto him Thou hast said nevertheless I say unto you Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power and coming in the clouds of heaven."

When Jesus did speak, He did not waste words on self-defense. He spoke prophetically. He declared truth. Even standing as a prisoner, He announced His future glory. Even in accusation, He revealed destiny.

Daniel 7:13, "I saw in the night visions and behold one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven and came to the Ancient of days and they brought him near before him."

The response from the high priest tells you everything about where their hearts were.

Matthew 26:65-66, "Then the high priest rent his clothes saying He hath spoken blasphemy what further need have we of witnesses behold now ye have heard his blasphemy What think ye They answered and said He is guilty of death."

The verdict was not based on evidence. It was based on bias and hostility. Jesus was condemned not for what He did wrong, but for who He truly was. And in absorbing that unjust judgment, He purchased something priceless for every one of us: justification.

Romans 8:33-34, "Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect It is God that justifieth Who is he that condemneth It is Christ that died yea rather that is risen again who is even at the right hand of God who also maketh intercession for us."

After the verdict came mockery.

Matthew 26:67-68, "Then did they spit in his face and buffeted him and others smote him with the palms of their hands Saying Prophesy unto us thou Christ Who is he that smote thee."

The King of glory — spat upon. The Creator of heaven and earth — struck by the very hands He had formed. The depth of humiliation is staggering.

Isaiah 50:6, "I gave my back to the smiters and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair I hid not my face from shame and spitting."

But hear this: Jesus endured that shame so you never have to wear it. He bore the humiliation so you could walk in honor and dignity.

Hebrews 12:2, "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross despising the shame and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."

In the economy of the cross, shame was exchanged for glory. Accusation was exchanged for justification. Injustice was exchanged for divine vindication.

So if you are facing false words, unfair treatment, or misrepresentation today, take courage. It does not cancel your destiny — in fact, it often precedes divine elevation. Jesus moved from accusation straight to glorification. And the same pattern holds for every one who remains faithful through the fire.
