THE WORD OF GOD; OUR SPIRITUAL NOURISHMENT

Matthew 4:4

Scripture Focus

Matthew 4:4

“But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”

The Word of God is vital for the spirit, providing life, strength, and energy to the believer. Jesus stated in Matthew 4:4 that man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from God’s mouth. This shows that spiritual survival, growth, and effectiveness depend on continual interaction with the Word. When the spirit receives Scripture, it grows strong, discerning, and capable of supporting the believer through trials and challenges.

Spiritual nourishment from the Word builds resilience and endurance. Just as a lack of food weakens the body, the spirit weakens without God’s Word. Engaging with Scripture offers energy, guidance, and the ability to act in faith. Psalms 119:103 emphasizes, “How sweet are thy words unto my taste yea sweeter than honey to my mouth!” This sweetness highlights the inner satisfaction and refreshment that the Word provides to the soul. Each verse contemplated and declared strengthens, shapes character, and deepens understanding.

The Word also brings life and transformation. Hebrews 4:12 states, “For the word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” This reveals that spiritual nourishment is active; it transforms the inner self, aligns thoughts with God, and strengthens the spirit for effective Kingdom work. A nourished spirit makes wise choices, exercises authority, and operates with divine effectiveness.

Spiritual nourishment through the Word brings divine insight. The believer who consistently engages with Scripture develops discernment, wisdom, and the ability to hear from God. Psalms 19:7 describes the Word as “the law of the Lord is perfect converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.” Regular interaction with the Word sharpens one’s perception, opens understanding, and equips the believer to navigate life with clarity and divine guidance.

Moreover, the Word sustains believers through times of testing. Just as food strengthens the body against sickness, spiritual nourishment strengthens the spirit against adversity, opposition, and delays. It provides assurance, stability, and support when challenges arise. When believers immerse themselves in Scripture, their faith is strengthened, hope is revived, and they are empowered to function from a place of abundance rather than lack.

Daily spiritual nourishment requires a proactive approach. It means meditating on Scripture, speaking it, and allowing it to influence thoughts and actions. John 6:63 states, “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life.” The Word is alive and gives energy, power, and divine life to those who engage with it. Each time a believer studies, meditates, or declares the Word, the spirit receives nourishment that leads to growth and the ability to impact both the natural and spiritual realms.

Today, the Lord invites you to prioritize spiritual nourishment. Read His Word daily, meditate on it, declare it with faith, and let it fill your spirit. Allow every promise, principle, and instruction to empower your inner self, equipping you for supernatural strength, wisdom, and favor. Your spiritual health, growth, and effectiveness rely on the Word as your source of nourishment.
