Before there is a sending, there must be an overshadowing. Before you function, you must be filled. Before you declare, you must be anointed. Jesus Himself, the perfect, sinless Son of God, waited for the Spirit before He launched into His earthly assignment.

Luke 4:18 begins with this prophetic reality: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me…” That was not a suggestion. It was the divine prerequisite for effective deployment. You are not qualified for divine assignments because you are passionate, you are qualified because you are anointed.

This is where many falter. They run because they are excited, not because they are empowered. They step out because they see the need, not because they received the breath. But need does not equal calling, and passion is not permission. In the Kingdom, overshadowing comes before emergence.

When Jesus was baptized in the Jordan, the heavens opened and the Spirit descended upon Him like a dove. Then the voice came: “This is my beloved Son…” (Matthew 3:17). Identity, authority, and assignment were all confirmed after the Spirit rested upon Him.

If Jesus, the eternal Word, needed the Spirit, how much more you? You cannot heal the sick, cast out devils, teach doctrine, or carry purpose without the oil. You may have the structure of a calling, but without the Spirit, you are not yet sent.

Acts 10:38 confirms this: “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good…” You don’t go before you are anointed. You wait. You press in. You tarry. And when the Spirit comes upon you, you become a witness, full of fire, boldness, and evidence.

In this new era, we must return to the upper room. The days of powerless ministry are over. The generation that will shift this age will be those upon whom the Spirit has come, not just in experience, but in residence. Overshadowing is your authorization.
